I love this book, had to get it for a class but I will keep it forever and haul it from pace to place as I grow old. So beautiful with an expansive history of design with in.

Wow, what a fantastic tome! Illustrations are stunning. Writing is clear. It's an enormous topic and this HUGE and physically heavy volume really does the subject of graphic design justice. I recommend to anyone who is interested in the graphic arts.

This book is essential for any serious graphic designer. It covers the beginning of graphic design from the Victorian era to the modern era and everything in between. There are so many good design examples and the book shows how design has evolved internationally.

As cheap as this book is, the first thing that shocked me was the fact that it's in full color. It's rare these days to find books in full color, and have nice paper for pages.The book is great, and I use it all the time to study for my class. It's got in depth information about artists, movements, and pieces of artwork. This book doesnt skimp on the details!Buy this book!

Got this book for a Graphic Design history class, wasn't too excited about the thickness of the book, but it's not that bad. It has a bunch of pictures to show you what he's talking about. This book has taught me soo much, my work has greatly improved and I know where to cite references, so I sound smarter. Goes into a more than just the work, but what's going on in the world at the time and why it's affecting it. The book jumps around at times when certain movements overlap, but overall I think it's a great book, and well worth the money, and when your done with it it'll make a nice coffee table piece.

About the Author
David Johnson earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology (with an emphasis on Learning Theory), from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. After several years working as an academic counselor at Berkeley, he became a Professor of Mathematics at Diablo Valley College (DVC). He has taught DVC's liberal arts math course regularly for about 25 years, using Mathematics a Practical Odyssey. Other favorite courses include Intermediate Algebra, all three semesters of Calculus, and Differential Equations.

Ed Tittel worked as an instructor for Austin Community College from 1997 through 2003 and taught at Interop from 1996 to 2004. He is a Network Certified Professional, and works as a full-time freelance writer and consultant in Austin, TX. He has contributed to over 130 books on computing across a broad range of subjects, and is the author of numerous titles published by Course Technology.
